MlB: Reyes, Buehrle miffed at Marlins

Citing major-league sources, foxsports.com reported shortstop Jose Reyes and left-hander Mark Buehrle, two of five Marlins headed to Toronto in a pending 12-player trade, are upset the team broke verbal promises to them regarding trades.

The Marlins do not award no-trade clauses, but club officials, while recruiting the free agents, assured both players they would not be moved, sources said.

According to ESPN, the Blue Jays are close to announcing their next manager. Among the finalists are Jim Tracy and Jim Riggleman.

GOLF: Rory to curtail schedule next season

Rory McIlroy has vowed to cut back his competitive schedule next year after the disappointment of missing the cut in his defense of the Hong Kong Open.

The world’s top-ranked golfer four-putted the final green Friday to finish three shots off.

On the course, Miguel Angel Jimenez of Spain shot a 2-under 68 yesterday to share the third-round lead with New Zealand’s Michael Campbell (69).

In Pebble Beach, Calif., Robert Streb shot a 3-under 69 in rainy conditions to take a one-stroke lead over Billy Horschel after the third round in the Pebble Beach Invitational.

In Naples, Fla. U.S. Women’s Open champion Na Yeon Choi finished with a 3-under 69 and a one-shot lead in the Titleholders.

ETC.: Broner wins lightweight title

In Atlantic City, Adrien Broner stopped Antonio DeMarco in the eighth round to take the WBC lightweight championship. Broner (25-0, 21 KOs) dominated from the outset, punishing DeMarco (28-3-1, 21 KOs) until DeMarco’s corner mercifully threw in the towel.

In Homestead, Fla., pole sitter Joey Logano was involved in a three-car accident, switched to a backup car and will start from the rear of the field in today’s NASCAR Sprint Cup finale. That moves Ben Keselowski, who had qualified third, to the front. Keselowski needs to finish 15th or better to clinch the title.
