Reba to the rescue

Reba McEntire is not only a country music icon and Broadway star (“Annie Get Your Gun”). She is now starring in her second hit sitcom, “Malibu Country,” in which she plays someone named. . . .Reba. She’s someone who dreamed of being a singer, married one, found out he was cheating on her, dumped him and retreated to the Malibu hideaway she got in the settlement. This week, Reba is livid when her ex (Jeffrey Nordling) shows up at their son’s 18th birthday — and gives him a brand new sports car. Reba wanted the boy to earn the money for that car. Meanwhile, Reba’s mom, Lillie Mae (Lily Tomlin), tries to help her granddaughter calm down; the girl’s preggers. Where’s Bristol Palin when you need her?

‘Dust’ in the wind

First, wheat prices collapsed during the Great Depression. Desperate farmers in the Great Plains tried to harvest more crops. Then a drought hit, in 1932. Dry as a bone, the open fields turned to dust and the winds blew though, creating storms of biblical proportions. Each year the storms grew more ferocious and more frequent, covering farms and homes across with sand, and spreading the dust across the country. Thousands of desperate Americans were torn from their homes and forced on the road in an exodus unlike anything the United States has ever seen. Think “The Grapes of Wrath,” but the real-life version. It’s called “The Dust Bowl” and it’s Ken Burns’ latest earnest documentary rooted in American history. Burns interviews 26 survivors, puts on some Woody Guthrie music and celebrates the perseverance of the people who lived then.

THE DUST BOWL

Woman with a secret

Dexter (Michael C. Hall) tries to keep Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) in the dark about his relationship with Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski), but a surprise visit from Astor (Christina Robinson), Cody (Preston Bailey) and Harrison throws a wrench into Dexter’s plans. Now out of jail, Isaak renews his pursuit of Dexter, while Quinn continues his power struggle with the Koshkas.

DEXTER

Today, 9 p.m., Showtime

Behold the cheesy Christmas movie

Ralph Macchio was able to remind his fans he was alive when he joined — and exited — the cast of “Dancing With the Stars” a few seasons ago. He’s a family guy, so maybe it’s fitting that he has segued to the Lifetime network to star in what has to be a cheesy Christmas movie. In “Holiday Spin,” Macchio stars as a former dance champion — a clever nod to his time on “Dancing”? — sidelined years ago by an injury. When his estranged son comes to live with him, he enlists his help in preparing for a Christmas Eve ballroom dance contest. Through teamwork, love and holiday cheer — and some pretty fancy dance moves by both father and son — they do what it takes to win the grand prize.
