NCAA: Stanford wins Pac-12 football title
Kevin Hogan threw for 155 yards and a touchdown and ran for 47 yards to help the eighth-ranked Cardinal beat visiting No. 17 UCLA 27-24 in the Pac-12 championship game last night. It was Stanford’s first conference title since the 1999 season.
In Detroit, Jordan Lynch ran for three touchdowns, including a 2-yarder in the second overtime, and Demetrius Stone’s interception in the end zone gave No. 19 Northern Illinois a 44-37 victory over No. 18 Kent State in a stirring Mid-American Conference championship game.

ames Southerland scored a career-high 35 points to lead No. 6 Syracuse to a 91-82 win over Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark. The Queens product was a career-best 9 for 13 on 3-pointers.
MLB: Braves trade Hanson to Angels
The Braves traded pitcher Tommy Hanson to the Angels for former closer Jordan Walden. Atlanta also declined to offer a contract to pitcher Jair Jurrjens, an All-Star in 2011 who was demoted to the minors last season.
The Giants declined to tender a one-year contract to closer Brian Wilson, making him a free agent.
The Astros claimed ex-Met Philip Humber, who pitched a perfect game for the White Sox in April, off waivers.
The Orioles have declined to offer a 2013 contract to slugger Mark Reynolds, who becomes a free agent.
GOLF: McDowell leads; Tiger four shots back
Graeme McDowell shot a 6-under 66 to take a three-shot lead in the World Challenge in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Bo Van Pelt had a 68, leaving him tied for second with Keegan Bradley and Jim Furyk, who each had a 69. Tournament host and defending champion Tiger Woods was tied for the lead at one point on the back nine but had to settle for a 69. He was four shots behind.

In Los Angeles, Antawn Jamison scored 33 points while leading an outstanding game by the Lakers’ reserves, and Dwight Howard had 28 points and 20 rebounds before hitting Los Angeles’ 17th 3-pointer in the final seconds of a 122-103 victory over the Nuggets.
