Top TCU to earn Big 12 crown

Landry Jones threw for 244 yards and two touchdowns, Damien Williams ran untouched 66 yards for a score and 12th-ranked Oklahoma held on to win 24-17 at TCU yesterday in Fort Worth, Texas, and clinch at least a share of the Big 12 title.

TCU (7-5, 4-5) had a fourth-down pass to the goal line in the final minute, but it was well-defended and fell incomplete.

Jones completed 22 of 40 passes for 244 yards and two touchdowns. Williams had his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the season, with 18 carries for 115 yards.

The Sooners (10-2, 8-1 Big 12) won their eighth consecutive Big 12 game since a loss to Kansas State in late September.

Kansas State 42, Texas 24

In Manhattan, Kan., Collin Klein threw a touchdown pass and ran for two scores and No. 7 Kansas State (11-1, 8-1 Big 12) beat No. 23 Texas (8-4, 5-4) for its third conference title in 117 years and a trip to the Fiesta Bowl.

The Wildcats had never played for a conference championship in their last game at home, and had never had a player end the regular season in such close contention for the Heisman Trophy as Klein.

Neither of his main competitors, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel nor Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te’o, played this weekend. So Klein, a multi-talented senior, had the stage all to himself, one last chance to burnish his credentials for what would be Kansas State’s first Heisman.

Baylor 41, Oklahoma St. 34

In Waco, Texas, Lache Seastrunk rushed for 178 yards, including a 76-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, and Nick Florence passed for 296 yards as Baylor (7-5, 4-5 Big 12) beat No. 24 Oklahoma State (7-5, 5-4).

Fla State 21, Georgia Tech 15

In Charlotte, N.C., James Wilder Jr. ran for two touchdowns as No. 13 Florida State (11-2) held off Georgia Tech (6-7) to capture its first Atlantic Coast Conference champions since 2005 and earn a trip to the Orange Bowl.

Wisconsin 70, Nebraska 31

In Indianapolis, Montee Ball ran for 201 yards and three touchdowns, and Wisconsin (8-5, 4-4 Big Ten) rushed for 539 yards to rout No. 14 Nebraska (10-3, 7-1) in the Big Ten title game.

The Badgers (8-5, 4-4 Big Ten) are the first team to reach the Rose Bowl with five losses, and the first Big Ten team to make it in three straight years since Michigan in the late 1970s.

Tulsa 33, Central Fla. 27 (OT)

In Tulsa, Okla., Alex Singleton ran for 100 yards and plunged over the top for a 1-yard score in overtime to lift Tulsa (10-3) over Central Florida (9-4) in the Conference USA championship game.

Boise St. 27, Nevada 21

In Reno, Nev., Joe Southwick threw two touchdown passes to lead No. 25 Boise State (10-2, 7-1 MWC) over Nevada (7-5, 4-4), earning the Broncos a share of the Mountain West title and ensuring their nation’s best seventh consecutive 10-win season.

Oregon St. 77, Nicholls St. 3

In Corvallis Ore., Storm Woods ran for two touchdowns in the first quarter and No. 16 Oregon State (9-3) put up its highest point total ever, routing Nicholls State (1-10) in a game that was postponed on Sept. 1 by Hurricane Isaac.

West Virginia 59, Kansas 10

In Morgantown, W.Va., Geno Smith threw for 407 yards and three touchdowns in his final home game to lead West Virginia (7-5, 4-5 Big 12) over Kansas (1-11, 0-9).

Smith completed 23 of 24 passes and his 95.8 percentage matched the single-game FBS record set by Tennessee’s Tee Martin against South Carolina in 1998.

Cincinnati 34, Connecticut 17

In East Hartford, Conn., Brendon Kay threw two touchdown passes to Travis Kelce, and caught one from the big tight end on a trick play as Cincinnati (9-3, 5-2 Big East) beat Connecticut (5-7, 2-5) to earn a share of the conference championship with Louisville, Rutgers and Syracuse.

Cincinnati’s two conference losses came to the Cardinals and Scarlet Knights and the Bearcats were not in the running for the conference’s BCS bowl berth.
