Tucked into last night’s 38-10 rout of the Packers was a serious injury. Running back Andre Brown came out of the game with a broken fibula, ending his season. Brown was having another solid game — a team-high 64 yards, plus his eighth rushing touchdown of the season.
“It takes a lot off of the win, to be honest with you,’’ Tom Coughlin said.
David Wilson, the rookie first-round pick, now moves in as the No. 2 back behind Ahmad Bradshaw. Back in 2007, a broken leg suffered by Derrick Ward allowed Bradshaw to move up the depth chart behind starter Brandon Jacobs.
“Ahmad told me the same thing happened with him,’’ Wilson said. “I’m definitely prepared, definitely take a good approach.’’
With only three running backs on the roster, the Giants likely will look to sign another. They worked out veteran Joseph Addai last week.
* Safety Kenny Phillips played after missing six games with a sprained MCL, but he did not make it through the game. He was forced out late in the third quarter on a 26-yard completion to Jermichael Finley. Phillips went down with another knee injury, walked off and did not return.
“I’m not worried at all,’’ Phillips said. “I probably could have continued to play, but with the score how it was, I figured it wouldn’t make any sense to go out there and try to hurt it some more. I was like, ‘Here we go again,’ but I got to the sidelines and the doctors took a look at it. It feels pretty good right now.’’
* Tight end Martellus Bennett took a huge hit from Packers safety Jerron McMillian in the fourth quarter and had to leave the game. McMillian was called for a 15-yard penalty for hitting a defenseless player.
“I was mad, I tried to go after him but they wouldn’t let me,’’ Bennett said. “I just wish if he gets fined that money would go to my Wells Fargo account.’’
After the game, Bennett was walking through the tunnel when an adult fan fell out of the stands about six feet. Bennett caught him.
“I just did what any superhero would do: saved his life,’’ Bennett said.
* RT David Diehl left the game in the second quarter with a neck burner and was replaced by Sean Locklear. … LT Will Beatty had some rough moments. He was called for two holding penalties. The first came when he allowed a sack and the second nullified a Bradshaw touchdown run in the third quarter. … The Giants have now outscored two opponents they beat in last year’s playoffs, the 49ers and Packers, 64-13.
