Got what it takes

It Takes a Village Academy takes the cake.

The East Flatbush HS was ranked at the top of all high schools this year — with a score of 98.7 out of 100 on its city-issued report card.

Nearly 86 percent of its students graduated by August 2012 as part of the school’s second graduating class, preliminary numbers show.

Students said the school was working hard to address its relatively low college-ready graduation rate of 11.8 percent — which counted toward schools’ ratings for the first time this year but didn’t bring the Academy’s grade down.

“We go on trips to colleges and stay in the dorms,” said senior Phaedra Brown, 17, who is planning to attend Stony Brook University. “It pushes us to see what college is really like.”

Other students praised the school’s longer day — ending at 4:15 p.m. for many students — and college credits being offered through Saturday classes.
