Bank of Canada Gov. Mark Carney was unexpectedly named head of the Bank of England as the UK government looked abroad for a candidate to lead the beefed-up central bank.
Carney, a former Goldman Sachs managing director, will join European Central Bank President Mario Draghi and New York Fed President William Dudley among the Goldman alumni now setting monetary policy.
