Upstate Serb thug goes free

A hulking Serbian basketball player who brutally beat a young Brooklyn man into a coma during an upstate bar brawl in 2008 got out of prison in his homeland early yesterday — angering the victim’s family.

“They thought the original [two-year] sentence was too short, and they’re disappointed that it’s been reduced even by this small amount” of two months, lawyer Irwin Rochman, who represents the family of ex-Binghamton University student Bryan Steinhauer, told The Post. “They’re not pleased about it.’’

Miladin Kovacevic had beaten Steinhaurer during a drunken fit in an upstate bar. Kovacevic, now around 25, had been drinking underage and attending Binghamton at the time.

The 6-foot-9, 280-pound basketball player left his 135-pound victim hospitalized for seven months.

After the assault, Kovacevic fled the United States with the help of Serbian officials.
