McKnight will try WR with Jets

Joe McKnight has played running back and cornerback this season. Now, the Jets are trying him at wide receiver.

With several injuries to their wide receiving corps, the Jets are experimenting with McKnight at the position this week. The Jets worked with him in practice yesterday and McKnight said he is not sure what it means in regard to Sunday’s game against the Cardinals at MetLife Stadium.

Both Clyde Gates and Chaz Schilens suffered concussions in the loss to the Patriots on Thursday. Gates’ concussion appears to be serious; he was not on the practice field yesterday. Schilens practiced but was not permitted to speak to the media afterward. The team cited the league’s policy on head injuries.

Jeremy Kerley also was not at practice. He has been battling hamstring and heel injuries and has not returned punts the last two weeks.

McKnight was briefly used at cornerback this year when the Jets were thin at the position because of injuries.

* Brandon Moore was not happy with NBC analyst Cris Collinsworth for his comments on Thursday’s game, when quarterback Mark Sanchez ran into Moore’s backside and fumbled.

Collinsworth went out of his way to praise Patriots defensive tackle Vince Wilfork for pushing Moore back into Sanchez. Collinsworth even compared Wilfork to Reggie White and said he lifted Moore off the ground, “forklifting” him.

“The Collinsworth guy, I’ve never really been a big fan of his,” Moore said. “To portray it in that way and to see it on TV … somebody slides into the back of you, you’re going to fall. That happens a lot.”

Wilfork and Moore appeared to play to a stalemate on the play before Sanchez plowed into Moore and fumbled. Wilfork did not push Moore into the backfield.

* Coach Rex Ryan said Tim Tebow (ribs) should be available to play against the Cardinals, butwas not sure if Tebow’s status would change from last week, when he was active but did not play in the game.

“I know he’s getting treatment and things like that,” Ryan said. “I anticipate him being ready to go, but we’ll see.”

Ryan again defended his decision to have Tebow active rather than third-string quarterback Greg McElroy.

* Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt told reporters in Arizona he is unsure if quarterback Kevin Kolb (ribs) can return this week against the Jets. If he can’t, rookie Ryan Lindley will be the starter again. Lindley had four interceptions against the Rams on Sunday, two returned for touchdowns in the Cardinals’ 31-17 loss.
