Jets blitz

HERO

Rex Ryan finally made the controversial quarterback change from Mark Sanchez, whom he’s been steadfastly supported, to Greg McElroy and McElroy didn’t disappoint. Although he’d never even been on the active roster for an NFL game, McElroy performed admirably. He completed 5-of-7 passes for 29 yards and a touchdown for a 118.5 rating. Though he made no spectacular throws, his presence seemed to energize the Jets.

UNSUNG HEROES

Jets running backs Shonn Greene and Bilal Powell, who led a rushing attack that gained 177 yards on 43 carries to control the game and not put the result in McElroy’s hands. Greene rushed for 104 yards on 24 carries and Powell gained 58 yards on 12 carries.

ZERO

Cardinals head coach Ken Wisenhunt didn’t make a quarterback change when it was evident rookie Ryan Lindley (10-of-31 for 72 yards, an INT and a 28.0 rating) could not move the ball. Wisenhunt had a healthy John Skelton on the bench and never brought him in.

KEY NUMBER

Zero third-down conversions — in 15 tries — for the Cardinals, who totaled 137 yards of offense — 40 of which came on a fake punt.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I’ll let you guys know who’s going to be the quarterback when I’m ready.”
