Drunk Queens man accused of mowing down elderly man gets probation after guilty plea

A boozed-up Queens man accused of mowing down an elderly pedestrian earlier this year will only serve five years probation and attend a slew of court-ordered programs.

Demitrios Matsoukatidis, 67, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter today for the death of 89-year-old Aldama Lizardo, who was innocently crossing the street in his Astoria neighborhood on Feb 7.

Matsoukatidis crashed his 1998 Mercedes SUV into Lizardo at the intersection of 21st Avenue and 31st Street.

The driver’s blood alcohol content was double the legal limit of .08.

Lizardo suffered severe head trauma and died at a local hospital hours later.

Matsoukatidis will be sentenced by Queens Criminal Court Judge Dorothy Chin-Brandt on March 8 to five years probation and during that time must perform 20 days community service, attend a DWI and Victim Impact Programs and install an ignition interlock into his car.

Family members of Lizardo are expected to give victim impact statements at sentencing.
