Jets report card

OFFENSE

The pathetic performance of Mark Sanchez (10-of-21 passes, 97 yards, 3 INTs) was finally bad enough for the Jets to make a quarterback change. Greg McElroy (5-of-7, 29 yards, 1 TD) did not get to throw all that much, but probably did enough to start next week. The Jets actually ran the ball well with 177 yards. Shonn Greene (24 rushes, 104 yards) went over the century mark for the second time this season.

DEFENSE

Cardinals quarterback Ryan Lindley was a joke, but give the Jets credit: They stopped the run and did not fall asleep as Lindley stunk up the joint. They held the Cardinals to a stunning 0-for-15 on third downs and gave up a total of 137 yards, 40 of which came on a fake punt.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Another rough week for Mike Westhoff and his units. Nick Folk missed two field goals, hitting each upright. They gave up a 40-yard fake punt that led to the Cardinals’ only points. Punter Robert Malone was a bright spot. He kept the ball away from Cardinals returner Patrick Peterson.

COACHING

What took so long Rex? That’s about the only question you can ask about the quarterback change. Ryan finally benched Mark Sanchez, going with Greg McElroy in the third quarter. It was a move that paid off. Mike Pettine drew up a nice game plan to confuse Lindley. Tony Sparano had no answers. He is lucky the Cardinals offense stinks.
