J.K. Rowling headed for TV

‘Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling’s first adult novel, “The Casual Vacancy,” is being adapted for British TV — and likely to end up on “Masterpiece Theater” here sometime in 2014, if all goes according to plan.

The BBC said yesterday that it had gotten rights to make the best-seller into Rowling’s first-ever TV series.

Her Harry Potter books, of course, have become one of the biggest film franchises of all time.

“I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television,” Rowling said in a statement.

“The Casual Vacancy” examines the clash of ideals, classes and generations in the seemingly sleepy English town of Pagford.
