Mike eyes sea change

Concerned that sea levels keep rising, Mayor Bloomberg announced yesterday that he’s ordered his aides to prepare plans to keep the city operating “come hell or high water.”

“We may or may not see another storm like Sandy in our lifetimes,” the mayor said at a forum in lower Manhattan sponsored by the Regional Plan Association and the New York League of Conservation Voters.

Bloomberg also noted that FEMA is redrawing city flood zones because two-thirds of Sandy-damaged homes were beyond the high-risk Zone A.

He also said he’s working with Verizon to speed up restoration of phone service downtown, where nearly all underground copper lines were destroyed.
