Trustees trust NYU prexy

The president of NYU may be in trouble, but the university’s board of trustees has his back.

Confirming an exclusive report in The Post, NYU’s Arts & Sciences faculty announced yesterday it will take the bold step of holding a no-confidence vote on John Sexton, the university’s president of 11 years.

Charging that Sexton has ridden roughshod over faculty concerns as he pursues an ambitious expansion program, the faculty’s Senate Caucus said the no-confidence vote will be held March 11-15.

Nevertheless, the university’s board of trustees yesterday continued its defense of Sexton, saying he “has transformed NYU in three decades from a regional university into an international research university.”

“While we recognize this vote reflects a disagreement with the direction of the university, John and the strategic direction he has set for the university enjoy our full confidence and strong support,” chairman Martin Lipton said in a statement.
