3 guns, extra ammo, and an evil heart

The crazed gunman who carried out the Connecticut massacre had at least three weapons, including what may have been a banned assault rifle, authorities said.

Two semiautomatic pistols were found in the school on or near Adam Lanza’s body — a Glock and a SIG Sauer, authorities said.

Since he is believed to have fired at least 100 rounds of ammunition, Lanza must have carried with him extra magazines in order to reload.

In a car outside the school, officials discovered a .223-caliber Bushmaster rifle, a notoriously lethal weapon that can fire up to six rounds a second and was designed for combat. Witnesses also said Lanza was wearing a bulletproof vest.

The 9mm Glock is a widely used handgun that is favored by many law enforcement agencies.

Lanza’s mom was the registered owner of the the weapons, law-enforcement sources told CNN.

The exact model of the .223-caliber was unknown but it appeared to be an assault weapon that would have been banned in Connecticut and previously banned nationwide by federal legislation that expired in 2004.

The “Beltway Sniper” — who turned out to be two people, John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo — used a .223 caliber to carry out a reign of terror in the Washington D.C. area in 2002, when they killed 11 people.
