Bengals put Jets on playoff brink

It’s now truly a must-win for the Jets.

With the Bengals’ win over the Eagles on Thursday, the Jets game on Monday night with the Titans is an elimination game.

Win and their playoff hopes live for another week. Lose and they are officially eliminated from the playoffs for the second straight season.

Jets coach Rex Ryan was not interested in discussing playoff scenarios.

“Our whole thing is it’s all about this opponent,” Ryan said yesterday. “I’ve even said it for the last several weeks. It’s just about what we have to do and that’s to find a way to beat Tennessee. That’s where our entire focus is. Did I glance at [the Bengals-Eagles game]? Yeah, but I never even saw the end of the game. That’s the way it has to be. That’s the position we’re in. All the other stuff aside, we know that we have to win this game. That’s 100 percent of where our focus is.”

The Jets (6-7) are 1 1/2 games behind the Bengals (8-6) for the final playoff berth in the AFC. They are also a game behind the Steelers (7-6), who face the Cowboys tomorrow.

Ryan said he is not worried about the playoffs or even finishing above .500. His focus is simple.

“I just want to win,” Ryan said. “You think about who’s up next and go take care of your business, improve, put out the best football team you can each week. I think that’s a challenge to the coach. You have your team ready to play.”
