Rex says Braylon to take field for Jets vs. Titans

Jets coach Rex Ryan believes wide receiver Braylon Edwards will be able to play tomorrow night against the Titans.

Edwards, whom the team acquired on Tuesday, is dealing with a hamstring injury. He has been limited in practice all week and is officially listed as questionable on the injury report.

“I remain optimistic about Monday night,” Ryan said yesterday on a conference call with reporters. “How much he’ll play, we’ll see. I’m optimistic for Monday night.”

Ryan later added: “I believe he will play.”

The Seahawks waived Edwards, who last played for the Jets in the 2010 playoffs, last week because of his injury. Seattle coach Pete Carroll said he believed Edwards would miss three weeks. The Jets seem to feel otherwise.

* Ryan waffled all week on just how much quarterback Tim Tebow will be able to do tomorrow, but sounded encouraged yesterday.

“I feel good about him,” Ryan said. “He practiced well again today. He looks good and he’ll be ready to go on Monday.”

Tebow practiced fully and is listed as probable.

* Tight end Dustin Keller (ankle), wide receiver Stephen Hill (knee), outside linebacker Bryan Thomas (chest) and cornerback Aaron Berry (hamstring) did not practice yesterday and all are doubtful for tomorrow.

Wide receiver Clyde Gates (concussion) and nose tackle Sione Po’uha (back) were limited in practice and are questionable.

Until yesterday Gates had not practiced since suffering the concussion against the Patriots last month. Ryan said Gates still has one more test to pass before he is cleared to play, so he was unsure of his status for the game.

The Jets will wear decals on their helmets honoring the victims of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy.
