Giants report card

OFFENSE

Please avert your eyes. Nothing to see here. Eli Manning (13 of 25, 161 yards) threw two first-half INTs to set a bad tone. Short-yardage was a disaster — getting stopped three times on fourth down. David Wilson (12 carries, 55 yards) ran hard in first start. The Giants had the ball for less than seven minutes in the second half, which is pathetic.

DEFENSE

When you don’t stop the run (129 rushing yards), don’t touch the quarterback (Matt Ryan was 23 of 28 for 270 yards and three TDs) and don’t prevent big plays by receivers (Julio Jones with two TDs), what have you done? Nothing, that’s what. Rookie Jayron Hosley was picked on and no one impressed at all.

F

SPECIAL TEAMS

The dome wasn’t to David Wilson’s liking with four touchbacks and only three kickoff returns (for 22-yard average). Steve Weatherford’s two punts were powerful, but Lawrence Tynes is slumping, missing a 30-yard field goal attempt wide left for a deflating early setback.

COACHING

No one saw this coming. Tom Coughlin eschewed field goals and wasn’t rewarded with fourth-down meltdowns. Kevin Gilbride, after 52-point eruption, had no answers, especially with short-yardage runs. Perry Fewell can’t inject enough toughness in his run defense.
