Hamstring may sideline Giants’ Prince in Atlanta

Prince Amukamara has played in 11 consecutive games this season after shaking off an early hamstring injury.

But it looks as if he is not going to make it 12 straight, as a new hamstring strain is set to sideline him for Sunday’s game against the Falcons in Atlanta.

“[Hamstring injuries] can be quite lingering,’’ Amukamara said yesterday.

When he was removed from last week’s 52-27 victory over the Saints, Amukamara said he could have remained in the game and taking him out was just precautionary.

As it turns out, that wasn’t the case.

“I definitely felt a little bit more pain after the game after the adrenaline started to come down, but I don’t know what my status will be this weekend until the coach or the trainers tell me,’’ Amukamara said.

“They didn’t tell me if it was a bad one. They said my strength and my motion is still good.

“It’s just that little bite in there when you try to open up. So as soon as that goes away I think I’ll be great.’’

Since taking over as the starting right cornerback, Amukamara has made steady strides and his loss will be a big one, considering a rookie, Jayron Hosley, is next in line.

* There was no sight again of RB Ahmad Bradshaw, who has a sprained knee and probably won’t even make the trip to Atlanta. WR Hakeem Nicks (knee) was able to practice on a limited basis.

“He’s working his way back,’’ coach Tom Coughlin said.

* DE Jason Pierre-Paul (back) returned to practice on a limited basis. C David Baas (shoulder) and TE Travis Beckum (knee) practiced fully. … S Kenny Phillips (knee) did not practice and is expected to miss another game. Also sitting out: LB Michael Boley (back) and S Tyler Sash. Boley said his back is stiff.

* Before last year’s playoff game, Justin Tuck said some people called the Falcons offensive line “dirt bags’’ for the way they cut-block and otherwise create harmful situations on the field.

That’s not the case anymore, as the Falcons have changed their offensive coordinator and offensive line coach.

“They’re not playing the way that they played,’’ DE Osi Umenyiora said. “They’re just trying to straight up block you. None of that dirty after the play, all that stuff they were doing last year.’’

* For the second straight day, Falcons WR Roddy White (knee) did not practice. Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell said if White doesn’t play “It may change a little bit of our strategy but not a lot.’’

* Tuck is one of 10 nominees for the 2013 Bart Starr Award, which honors one NFL player for outstanding character and leadership in the home, on the field and in the community.
