The monster who massacred 20 first-graders in Connecticut belonged to the same Catholic church as eight of them — and it’s where the children’s funerals will be held this week.
Gunman Adam Lanza, 20, and his mother, Nancy Lanza, had been parishioners at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church in Newtown. Adam also had gone to the church’s school as a child after his mother pulled him out of nearby Sandy Hook Elementary School, where he conducted his murderous rampage Friday.
Worshippers said they felt nauseous after realizing that the crazed gunman was a member of their community.
“It’s a sickening feeling to even know that person — that sick person — actually walked these streets, sat in church, the families not knowing what the future held,” said a parishioner named Larry. “That’s a very, very sad and sickening feeling.”
“It makes me very angry,” he said. “It’s something that, as a parent, you don’t want to hear.”

For Marie Muthersbaugh, 46, church is supposed to be a safe haven.
“But evil knows no bounds — it can be lurking anywhere,” she said.
“It’s shocking. You just never know what people are capable of,” added Muthersbaugh of nearby Bethel. “Eight kids from this parish — that’s almost half of the kids killed — and he could have sat next to them in church.”
Church spokesman Brian Wallace said it was unclear how often Lanza and his mother attended services there.
Anguished relatives of two of Lanza’s victims are set to lay their loved ones to rest today. Two other victims will be memorialized during a funeral service at St. Rose tomorrow.

Meanwhile, one of the teachers slain in the senseless attack, Rachel Davino, was set to get engaged, it was reported yesterday.
Her boyfriend, Anthony Cerritelli, had asked her parents for permission to marry their daughter and planned to pop the question on Christmas Eve, the Wall Street Journal said.
