The nation’s worst deadbeat dad made a tearful jailhouse call to the woman he owes more than $800,000 in child support, pleading for help to escape the “murderers and rapists” he now calls cellmates.
After a decade on the run, Robert Sand, 50 — who owes more than $1.2 million total in child support to two ex-wives on Long Island — was arrested in Los Angeles Monday and held without bail.
He was picked up at the LA airport after officials in the Philippines kicked him out of the country.
Lisa Sand, 52, Robert’s first wife with whom he fathered two daughters, was his first call.
“He told me, ‘There are murderers in here. There are rapists in here. You’ve got to get me out of here’ — like I’m his personal assistant,’’ Lisa told The Post.
“He was hysterically crying. He said, ‘I want to make my life better. I screwed up my life.’ ”
Robert “literally went to the ends of the Earth to avoid paying child support,” his ex added.
After their 1996 divorce, Sand remarried and had another child, before fleeing that family as well and heading to Thailand.
He also fathered a child in Thailand, officials said, and was in trouble with the law there while working as a motorcycle salesman.
He was deported from the Philippines for not possessing proper ID.
