Former Jets DT Jenkins slams Sanchez

Former Jets nose tackle Kris Jenkins fired shots at his old teammate Mark Sanchez last night on “Inside the NFL.”

Jenkins said that Sanchez had a strong team around him in his first two years but did not improve.

“What Sanchez has to take responsibility for is during the time that he could have gotten better he wanted to sit back,” said Jenkins.

Jenkins played with Sanchez in 2009-10, the two years the Jets made the AFC Championship game.

“He wanted to pose for magazines, worry about his haircuts and do all of that stuff. … I’m just saying, from what I saw him do, it was a lot better than what it is now.”

“But he coasted. They coddled him. That was what was going on. This is a man’s profession. You have to man up at some point in time and take care.”

Jenkins said he does not think Sanchez should be a Jet next year.

“I think that if you leave Sanchez in that locker room he is going to become a bad apple … And the locker room has been fragile for the past two years,” Jenkins said.

* The Jets tried out kicker Harvard Rugland on Tuesday, according to a source. Rugland is a Norwegian 28-year-old best known for his trick-kicking video on YouTube.

* Never put anything past the Jets.
