Ben ‘Argo’s to Washington

Sen. Affleck?

Ben Affleck, looking serious — and a bit congressional — visited Capitol Hill yesterday but refused to dampen speculation that he’s considering running for a US Senate seat from Massachusetts.

“That’s not what I’m here to talk about,” the actor-director told Politico aftertestifying to the House Armed Services Committee about violence in Congo, the African nation he’s visited regularly in recent years.

Later in the day the “Argo” star met privately with members of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and posed for photos with them and their chairman, Sen. John Kerry.

Kerry’s seat would become vacant if he is named to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state when she resigns next month.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick would name a temporary replacement for Kerry until a special election is held for the Senate seat, probably in the late spring.

Affleck is among several people — including Ted Kennedy Jr. and former Sen. Scott Brown — said to be considering running for the seat Kerry has held since 1985.
