Amukamara, Phillips back at practice for Giants

It was not exactly “All In” for the Giants Wednesday, but they did welcome back two key members of their defensive backfield, as safety Kenny Phillips returned from a knee injury and Prince Amukamara was on the field after missing last week’s game in Atlanta with a strained hamstring.

Amukamara and Phillips both worked on a limited basis.

Phillips missed six straight games with a sprained MCL, returned for two and then sat out the past two games after aggravating the injury. Phillips said on Monday he is “100 percent’’ sure he will play on Sunday in Baltimore.

“With Kenny, we feel like he’s rested and ready to contribute,’’ Tom Coughlin said.

Rookie Jayron Hosley started against the Falcons in place of Amukamara and the results were not what the Giants were looking for.

“I’m feeling great,’’ Amukamara said. “I feel a little bit sore right now and that’s natural.’’

Amukamara said he has yet to fully test his hamstring, as he has “been staying in my realm, just trying to be smart about it right now.’’ He’s still not sure if he can contribute enough to play on Sunday vs. the Ravens.

“It’s kind of like a Catch-22, damned if you do, screwed if you don’t,’’ he said. “You want to put the team before you, but you also just have to be smart about it.

“This is a huge game, very crucial and if we make it to the playoffs you don’t want to get hurt in this game and not be ready for the playoffs. But you definitely want to help the team make the playoffs. It’s a huge decision.’’

Five starters did not practice: C David Baas (hip/shoulder), RB Ahmad Bradshaw (knee), WR Hakeem Nicks (knee), G Chris Snee (hip) and DE Justin Tuck (shoulder).

Bradshaw has said he doesn’t plan to practice until tomorrow at the earliest, but he’s confident he will be able to shake off his sprained knee and play this weekend.

“We’d all love to have [Bradshaw] play, but it’s going to be a medical decision,’’ Coughlin said.

As for Tuck’s shoulder, Coughlin said “He probably banged it in the game, although he didn’t come out of the game or anything of that nature. We can and I think he can deal with it because he’s had to before.’’

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said “Nothing has changed’’ regarding LB Ray Lewis, who has missed the past eight games with a torn right triceps and is not expected to return this weekend. … WR Torrey Smith (concussion) did not practice for Ravens. … CB Terrence Frederick was re-signed to the practice squad.
