Worker injured after elevator drops two floors

A worker suffered a broken ankle when a service elevator plunged two floors at a Midtown hotel this afternoon, authorities said.

The unidentified employee of a laundry company was moving a bin of linen at the Madison Towers Hotel, 22 East 38th Street, when it fell from the main floor to a sub-basement at 4:32 p.m.

When Walter Betantourth, a hotel engineer, reached the victim, “His leg was under the bin. He told me he was in pain. You could see it on his face.”

The man was taken in stable condition to Cornell Hospital.
