Vick says he’s not a backup

Michael Vick doesn’t know where yet. But he’s sure he’ll be a “full-fledged starter” for an NFL team next year.

“I’m not a backup,” Vick told PhillyMag.com. “Just being honest, just being candid. … That’s what I’ve got in me, that’s what I provide, that’s what I offer.”

Vick’s name has been brought up as a potential replacement for Mark Sanchez with the Jets. But The Post’s Brian Costello, citing a source, reported Wednesday it’s unlikely Vick would come to Gang Green if he’s released by the Eagles as expected.

Vick, 32, is due $15.5 million next season and $3 million of that becomes guaranteed Feb. 6. Teams can’t start trading again until March 12, so he’s likely to be released. Vick has been extremely turnover prone and struggled with injuries this year. Nick Foles has replaced him as the Eagles quarterback, but he believes he’ll be a first string somewhere next season.

“I want to start,” Vick said. “Yeah, I’m a starter. I’ll feel that way until I start to feel like I’m becoming a problem on the team.”

He wasn’t the only issue with Philadelphia, which is 4-10 in a second straight disappointing season, but Vick didn’t seem to be the solution either. Nevertheless, he believes he’s “just getting started.”

“I just feel like I have made so many strides as far as learning the defensive part of the game and kind of piecing it together with the offense,” he said. “I feel like over the last two years I’ve kind of gotten better in the protection game and learning defensive schemes. I’ve got prime left, man.”
