Stony Brook’s upset bid falls short

Alex Len and Dez Wells each scored 19 points, and Maryland squeezed past Stony Brook 76-69 last night in College Park, Md. for its 10th straight victory.

Freshman guard Seth Allen contributed nine points and Pe’Shon Howard had eight points and seven assists for the Terrapins (10-1), who haven’t lost since dropping the season opener to Kentucky on Nov. 9. The 10-game run is Maryland’s longest since the 2000-01 season.

Jameel Warney led Stony Brook with 17 points and Eric McAlister had 12. The Seawolves had won four straight since losing at Connecticut by 11.

UConn 88, Fordham 73

In Hartford, Conn., Ryan Boatright scored a career-high 26 points and added nine assists for the Huskies.

UConn (9-2) used a suffocating defense to force 21 Fordham turnovers while making 15 steals.

Wagner 63, SMU 53

In Santa Clara, Calif., Jonathon Williams scored 13 points to lead the Seahawks in the Cable Car Classic

Eric Fanning added 11 points for Wagner (5-4). Williams added seven rebounds.

Rutgers 79, Howard 55

In Piscataway, N.J., Eli Carter scored 20 points as Rutgers won for the eighth time in nine games. The Scarlet Knights (8-2) are 2-0 under associate head coach David Cox.

Cox is filling in for coach Mike Rice, suspended for three games because of a violation of athletic department policy.

Indiana 88, Fla. Atlantic 52

In Bloomington, Ind., Cody Zeller had 24 points and six rebounds, leading four players into double figures. for the No.6 Hoosiers.

Notre Dame 89, Niagara 67

In South Bend, Ind., Jack Cooley had 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the No. 22 Fighting Irish.
