Titans’ Johnson shows off home-run trot

NASHVILLE — The Jets defense called Chris Johnson a “home-run hitter” entering the game. He showed them his home-run trot last night.

The Titans running back broke a 94-yard run in the second quarter that gave his team its first lead and showed one of the few cracks in the Jets defense all night.

Nose tackle Sione Po’uha took the blame, saying he guessed the wrong gap on the play. Center Kyle DeVan was able to push Po’uha out of the play and Johnson burst through the defense and raced to the end zone.

“I definitely favored a side in there and definitely thought that he was going to hit that ‘A’ gap and then he hit that sharp cut to the left,” Po’uha said. “I definitely favored that side.”

Johnson finished with just 122 yards rushing, with the Jets containing him for most of the night.

“It was a situation that their defense plays so many guys down in the box,” Johnson said. “No matter what run you have, you always know if you get behind those guys there is a good chance you can go all the way.”

The run was the second-longest the Jets have ever allowed, trailing Garrison Hearst’s 96-yard overtime run for the 49ers in 1998.

* Johnson wore the names of the victims of the school shooting in Newtown, Conn., on his shoes.

“It’s something to try to give back and show tribute to those families,” Johnson said. “I know how much they hurt.”

* This is the first time the Jets have missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons since 2007-08, Eric Mangini’s final two years. … The Jets are 0-3 in prime-time games this season, losing to the Texans, Patriots and the Titans.

* The inactives for the game were: QB Greg McElroy, CB Aaron Berry, LB Bryan Thomas, DL Damon Harrison, G Caleb Schlauderaff, TE Dustin Keller and WR Stephen Hill.

* The Jets had six WRs active for the game. … LB Garrett McIntyre started in place of Thomas.

* Jets owner Woody Johnson declined to comment after the game when chased down by reporters.

“I’ll talk to you guys after the season,” he said.
