Irish ‘Cheers’ remake on way

Well, better late than never, right?

An Irish production company will remake “Cheers” for Irish TV — 20 years after the iconic NBC sitcom went off the air.

Dublin-based Sideline Productions has bought the rights to all the episodes of “Cheers” and will translate the adapted version into Gaelic, according to reports.

The new show, “Teach Sean” (“Sean’s House”), will air on Ireland’s TG4 and will be tweaked for Irish viewers.

In “Cheers,” Ted Danson played Sam Malone, an ex-ballplayer/recovering alcoholic who owns a Boston bar.

In “Teach Sean,” the protagonist will be an ex-hurling star who, like Sam Malone, is a recovering alcoholic and runs a bar. Hurling is an outdoor game, played in Ireland, in which players use a wooden “hurley” stick to hit a small ball over a crossbar.

“Teach Sean” is expected to have its own version of “Cheers” barroom characters — including Norm (George Wendt), Cliff (John Ratzenberger) and feisty barmaid Carla (Rhea Perlman).

Meanwhile, Fox International Channels and Endemol Italia are developing an Italian version of “Kitchen Nightmares” called “Cucine da incubo Italia” (“Kitchen Nightmares Italy”).

It will be hosted by Antonino Cannavacciuolo, the chef at Locanda del Pilone, an inn located near Alba.

No word on whether Cannavacciuolo drops F-bombs (in Italian, of course) like “Kitchen Nightmares” host Gordon Ramsay.
