State Police increase patrols to SUNY Farmingdale after threat to ‘shoot up campus’ is made

State Police have increased patrols at SUNY Farmingdale on Long Island – after a bathroom graffiti there threatened to “shoot up campus’’ today, officials said.

There was no reference to the Newtown, CT horror and the wording may have been taken from a song but university officials say they are taking no chances and have alerted all students and staff to the possible threat.

“We’re being overly cautious, in light of what happened in Newton,’’ said University spokesman Pat Calabria. “We have additional State Police on campus today.’’

The scrawled message was found on a men’s room wall in Whitman Hall last Thursday, said Calabria, and read:

“Ima shoot up campus on Dec 18 2012. Be prepared (racial epithet) gonna kill as many of you as possible! – Killer.’’

Authorities said the message is similar to one found in April on a Newark, N.J. high school and may be taken from lyrics of an alternative hip-hop group.
