Ex-NHL players to deliver kits to Sandy storm victims

BUFFALO — Some former National Hockey League players will be delivering supplies to Superstorm Sandy victims.

Former Buffalo Sabres and New York Islanders forwards Pat LaFontaine, Clark Gillies and Benoit Hogue will help distribute 3,500 hygiene kits containing things like shampoo and toothpaste in Freeport on Long Island later this week.

The kits are being assembled in Buffalo Tuesday at First Niagara Center, where the Sabres normally play. Several organizations are pitching in to buy and assemble the supplies, including First Niagara Bank, National Grid, New Era Cap and the Sabres Alumni Association.
