Cowboys boot Brent from their sidelines

Josh Brent will not be permitted to be on the Cowboys’ sideline for the remainder of the season, team and league sources said yesterday.

The Cowboys and officials in the NFL’s offices were unaware that Brent — who is on the reserve/non-football injury list after being charged with intoxication manslaughter two weeks ago in the car crash that killed teammate Jerry Brown — would be on the sideline Sunday during the game against the Steelers. Both the team and the league agree it was not appropriate, sources said.

Meanwhile, a judge ordered Brent to wear an electronic ankle monitor, and also modified conditions for his continued release, lowering his bond from $500,000 to $100,000 during his court appearance yesterday.

Brent also was ordered not to consume alcohol or drive until he has a valid Texas license, and he was fitted with a SCRAM device that will detect any alcohol consumption. The judge warned Brent that any violation of these terms will result in him being immediately returned to jail.

VIKINGS: Adrian Peterson was voted the team’s winner of the Ed Block Courage Award, given to one player on each team who exemplifies sportsmanship.

Peterson, coming of ACL surgery, needs 294 yards in the final two games to eclipse Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record of 2,105 yards set back in 1984. His 1,812 yards this season are a career high.

CHARGERS: Running back Ryan Mathews (collarbone), wide receiver Malcom Floyd (ankle) and tackle Reggie Wells (foot) were placed on injured reserve. They were injured in Sunday’s 31-7 loss to the Panthers.

DOLPHINS: Defensive back Dimitri Patterson was awarded to Miami one day after being waived by the Browns. The team also placed backup tight end Charles Clay on injured reserve with a right knee injury.

BILLS: Starting right guard Kraig Urbik signed a four-year contract extension that locks him up through 2016 and is worth $13.3 million, including a $3.5 million signing bonus for this season.

BROWNS: Alec Scheiner was named the new team president. Previously, he was senior vice president with the Cowboys.
