Perfectly incompetent

* The Jets epitomize the Peter Principle — people rise to the level of their incompetence. Rex Ryan was a good defensive coordinator, but is a lousy head coach. Mike Tannenbaum was a good capologist, but is a lousy GM. Tim Tebow was a Heisman Trophy winner in college, but is a dud as an NFL quarterback. Even owner Woody Johnson should have stuck to his corporate trajectory instead of extracting PSL money from fans who bet their hearts when listening to their brains would have served them better.

* I agree with the Jets’ decision to start Greg McElroy at quarterback today against the Chargers. The season is lost and the Jets need to see what McElroy can do. This decision would be proper even if Joe Namath, and not Mark Sanchez, had been the starting quarterback. This does not diminish the fact Sanchez did not produce, because of the Jets’ poor coaching. The fans that booed him will see the difference when Sanchez gets picked up by a team with a competent head coach.

* I think enough time has passed to assess Jets owner Woody Johnson’s claim he decided to pass on Peyton Manning. The $20 million a year the Jets would have paid would have been a small fraction of what Johnson would have made on tickets, PSLs and licensed merchandise. Maybe its time to bring someone in who knows something about football.

Tim to reflect

* Coach Rex Ryan and the Jets should be ashamed for the way they treated Tim Tebow this season. Tebow has proven to be a class act who next year will sign with another NFL team that will use him appropriately and find that he is a winner, while Ryan will again be giving excuses for another disastrous losing season.

Dickey disgrace

* If the Mets think they can trade R. A. Dickey and not suffer from fan disgust, they are kidding themselves. Personally, I only went to Mets games last year to see Dickey and only watched the whole game on TV when Dickey pitched. Many of us Mets fans will be saying, “See ya,” to the team next season. I can root for a losing team, but not when it’s run by dumb losers.

Quiet time

* When will TV executives realize their commentators are ruining sporting events for viewers? Their constant chatter is distracting and 90 percent of it has nothing to do with the game they are supposed to be announcing. Changes of possession, fouls and infractions go by the wayside as they continue their drivel. Do it as in the old days with one person in the booth so he can announce properly!

Get out!

* First it was Jeremy Lin, then R.A. Dickey and now Tim Tebow. Who will be the next New York player to be run out of town?
