Time’s conventional choice

The Issue: Time Magazine’s naming President Obama as Person of the Year for the second time.

***

Time Magazine has chosen President Obama as its person of the year for 2012 (“Itsy-Bitsy Spidey an Obama Web Zinger,” Dec. 20).

If Time had any sense, it would have chosen Newtown teacher Victoria Soto for the bravery she demonstrated in protecting students in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

May God bless you and keep you, Victoria.

Obama has become a symbol — in some ways he is the architect of a new America. For that, I say: Kudos.

Obama has been disappointed in that the economy has not moved fast enough.

I disagree with the president on certain issues but not for his tenacious efforts to make America a better place.

Let no one deny the fact that Obama cares about family, the poor and the middle class.

He has shown deep concern for the victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School and those hurting from the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy.

Time Magazine has rightly made Obama person of the year because he cares for America and the problems of many Americans.
