Children get visit from ‘Sandy’ Claus

Kids in storm-battered Red Hook got a huge helping of Christmas joy yesterday, thanks to a holiday toy drive.

More than 100 kids whose families were impacted by Hurricane Sandy wrote letters to Santa several weeks ago with requests for gifts like Ugg boots, iPods or art sets.

The toys were provided by Catholic Charities of Brooklyn and Queens, Red Hook Lobster Pound and Twitter followers of “King of Queens” actress Leah Remini.

“After Hurricane Sandy, I’m grateful the church is giving toys to the children,” said mother-of-two Miriam Camacho, who picked up presents at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary R.C. Church of Red Hook with her kids. “So many people can’t afford it this year. They lost so many belongings they had to replace.”
