Mom-of-two nurse killed in Qns. hit-run

A Queens nurse was killed by a hit-and-run driver last night after she went shopping near her home, cops and family said.

Sheena Mathew, 38, was struck while crossing Hillside Avenue in Floral Park.

The mother of two was a registered nurse who worked at New York Hospital Queens.

Her husband is a traffic agent in Manhattan.

“She was just going to pick up her husband’s medication,’’ said Mathew’s grieving uncle Philip Philipose. “We just spent last night together. It was a Christmas party. She was so happy. This is just a shame.’’

Mathews attended St. Gregorios Oriental Orthodox Church, where Bishop Samuel described her as a “wonderful woman, a very hardworking woman.’’

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified, said the victim was the doting mom of girls about 11 and 13 years old. “They were always together,” she said.

“She was a sweet person.”

The tragic accident was one of several that killed or injured pedestrians around the city yesterday:

* A 33-year-old woman was struck and killed by a city bus on Seventh Avenue near 59th Street.

The victim, Aileen Martinez, was hit by an empty Staten Island express bus, authorities said.

* A 30-year old woman was struck by a car in South Jamaica. That driver, too, fled the scene, police said. The woman was in critical condition.

* Two pedestrians were struck and injured earlier in the evening in Brooklyn, police said.
