Spanish Ramsay scoring big

Gordon Ramsay’s Spanish alter-ego is a big hit with viewers.

Pesadilla en la Cocina,” a version of the Ramsay-hosted “Kitchen Nightmares,” is a huge hit on Spain’s La Sexta network.

The series, hosted by foul-mouthed chef Alberto Chicote, ended its first season with nearly 13 percent of all Spanish TV viewers watching the show — big numbers for La Sexta, according to Variety.

“Pesadilla” has a similar format to “Kitchen Nightmares,” in which the profane Ramsay, famous for dropping F-bombs, visits ailing restaurants and tries to whip them into shape.

Chicote “cusses like an Ernest Hemingway character and has the dinner manners of a goatherd,” according to Variety, which notes one recipe for the show’s success is Spain’s rough economy (the country is battling an unemployment rate of nearly 26 percent).
