This week’s couple: Blast in the past

DATING 101 says talking about the past may not bode well for a single guy or gal’s future as a couple. But when Desiree and Jason, both 26, met at the NoMad gastrobar LuLu & Me, they shared me-mories of growing up in the ’90s while sharing each other’s meals. Did Desiree and Jason enjoy the trip down memory lane? Or did they hit a dead end?

He said:

Desiree has a natural beauty about her. Her personality is exactly what I look for in a woman: She’s fun and thoughtful.

We started talking about music, and when I mentioned my favorite band is Nirvana, and she said hers is Oasis, I knew we’d get along. I never thought I’d meet someone with as much appreciation for ’90s music as me. I also mentioned that I rap, but she didn’t ask me to prove it, though I would’ve happily obliged!

LuLu & Me was great. I ordered the lemon shrimp, but Desiree couldn’t finish her meal, so I got to taste hers, too. That was awesome.

Desiree told me about a cool ’90s party they do every month at the Bell House in Brooklyn. I’d like to see her again, so maybe we’ll check that out together.

She said:

Jason was cuter than I expected, and seemed friendly.

We both love ’90s alternative music, and even though Oasis is better than Nirvana, it was fun to meet someone into the same tunes. Jason also raps in his spare time, which I find interesting. I also find his passion about it endearing, and am curious to hear him go at it one day!

I was more than willing to share my food — and he had no problem taking from my plate! It was too good to go to waste. Everyone at LuLu & Me was attentive and friendly. We exchanged numbers and made plans to hang out again; probably something ’90s themed. I’m happy to take it from there.
