Poll: 77% of US Christian

Nearly eight in 10 Americans consider themselves Christians, according to a new Gallup survey.

Among the 77 percent who identified themselves as part of the Christian faith, 52 percent said they were Protestant or other Christian, 23 percent Catholic, and 2 percent Mormon.

Nearly 2 percent said they were Jewish, about one-half percent Muslim, and 2.6 percent cited other non-Christian religions.

About 15 percent said they had no religious identity, while 2 percent declined comment.

“The United States remains a largely Christian nation. More than nine in ten Americans who have a religious identity are affiliated with a Christian religion,” Gallup said.
