Alleged drunk driver kills 1 after smashing into L.I.E. median

A boozed-up driver crashed into a median on a Queens highway — killing one of his family members today, authorities said.

Queens resident Ricardo Rivas, 39, was eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at 4 a.m. when his 2003 Ford Explorer struck the median, just past the 108th Street exit, police said.

The front-seat passenger — 27-year-old Queens resident Carlos Rivas — was rushed to New York Hospital of Queens where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Cops said Ricardo and Carlos Rivas are family but their exact relationship wasn’t immediately known.

Three passengers in the back seat were also injured in the smash up, police said. They were all taken to Elmhurst Hospital and expected to recover from their injuries, police said.

Ricardo Rivas was arrested at the scene and charged with alleged vehicular manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and driving while intoxicated, authorities said.

Several smashed Corona beer bottles were spotted at the crash scene.
