Andy: I won’t halt gun show

ALBANY — The gun show must go on.

Gov. Cuomo yesterday said he won’t try to stop scheduled gun shows at a state-owned facility and wouldn’t support a statewide prohibition on the events, as gun-control advocates are urging.

But he also reiterated his backing for tougher gun-control laws in the wake of last month’s Connecticut school massacre.

Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, a potential GOP challenger to Cuomo next year, canceled a gun show at the County Center in the wake of the Dec. 14 Newtown shootings.

But Cuomo said he won’t intervene to halt a similar show scheduled for the state-owned Empire Plaza Convention Center in Albany on Jan. 26 and 27.

“I understand the general concern, but these are individuals who have a right to sign a contract, and if they did, they did,” Cuomo said.
