Bronx gran gunned down in first NYC murder of ’13

A Bronx school-crossing guard became New York’s first murder victim of 2013 yesterday when she and her daughter were allegedly shot by her daughter’s boyfriend, law-enforcement sources said.

Raymond Mayrant, 25, confronted his girlfriend, Diamond Dunn, in an apartment in the Monroe Houses project on Story Avenue in The Bronx just before 1 p.m, sources said.

“Why’d ya do me like that?” Mayrant demanded of Dunn, 22, who has a child with him, sources said.

He then allegedly shot Dunn in the nose, and shot her mother, Elzina “Zina” Brown, 59, at least once in the chest, sources said. Mayrant then fled.

Brown was pronounced dead at the scene.

Her daughter was taken to Jacobi Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Cops were hunting for Mayrant this morning. He has prior arrests for assault, grand larceny, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.

Brown’s brother Robert fumed, “I’m ready to kill the boy. I hope I don’t catch him.”

New York City had 418 reported murders in 2012, a record low.
