Jets fire conditioning coach

The Jets’ sorry season claimed another victim yesterday as strength and conditioning coach Bill Hughan was axed after just two seasons with the team, a league source confirmed.

Hughan, who replaced the infamous Sal Alosi, was held responsible for the crush of hamstring and other soft-tissue injuries that plagued the Jets throughout the past year.

The Jets also lost two of their most important players, cornerback Darrelle Revis and wideout Santonio Holmes, for the year early in the season to non-contact injuries.

All told, starters missed 54 games due to injury in 2012 — the Jets’ highest rate in seven seasons.
