UWS is city’s most rat-ridden neighborhood, data shows

Even the rats want this real estate!

The Upper West Side is the city’s most rat-ridden neighborhood, city data show.

Residents in the 10024 and 10025 ZIP codes have lodged more than 1,183 “rodent complaints” with the 311 hot line in the last two years.

The wealthy ZIP codes even lodged more rodent reports than bohemian Bushwick — which came in second with 965 reports and is roughly the same size geographically.

The vermin are grossing out Upper West Siders, who say the city’s extermination efforts simply aren’t cutting it.

“This is out of control. They are big, fat and are well fed — and they are getting smarter,” said James Johnson, 24, a cook in the neighborhood.

“[Upper West Siders] pay a lot of rent, and the rats are living for free,” he went on.

The UWS had nearly twice many reports as the Lower East Side and the East Village, which phoned-in 688 complaints in the same period.
