Writers OK with Jets delaying Rex talk

It was an inadvertent whistle.

That seemed to sum up the position of the Pro Football Writers Association of America yesterday when the organization said it was “satisfied” the Jets are following the “spirit of the rules” in making Rex Ryan and Woody Johnson available to the media on Tuesday rather than within the seven-day period required by the NFL.

The PFWA lodged a formal complaint with the league Wednesday after the Jets violated the NFL policy by not having the owner or coach available until next week. NFL rules state all teams must make “a top executive” available within a week of their season ending. The Jets season ended Sunday with a loss to Buffalo.

In a statement, the PFWA said it looks forward to hearing from Ryan and Johnson “after discussing the circumstances with the Jets.”
