SUNY New Paltz professor found dead in car on campus

NEW PALTZ, N.Y. — Campus officials say a man found dead in his car in a State University at New Paltz parking lot has been identified as an adjunct professor who taught German there.

The Poughkeepsie Journal reports that 53-year-old Norbert Hellmann was found dead in his car at 3 a.m. Friday. University police say the cause of death hasn’t been determined but they don’t suspect foul play.

College spokeswoman Suzanne Grady said Hellmann has been affiliated with the college since 1986, first as an instructor of German and later as an English as a second language instructor in the Center for International Programs.

He also served as an adviser to international students.
