Before you tell your hairdresser to give you “the usual,” consider treating your tresses to a new look inspired by 2013’s hottest hair trends. Those ombré locks you’ve been rocking since February? So passé, says JP Ramirez, colorist and hair-extension specialist at the Yves Durif Salon. And if it’s waves you’re after, a little messiness will go a long way this year, says star salon owner Ted Gibson. From Beyoncé’s bangin’ bangs to Anne Hathaway’s daring pixie, there are stacks of styles to try, like the textured updo celebrity stylist Marco Maranghello foresees brides swooning over. And if you’re hesitant to do anything too drastic, fret not — bobs and blowouts are still in. What’s most important is that “women embrace some sort of freshness,” says famed stylist Oribe. Let our panel of hair gurus show you how! — LEAH FAYE COOPER The Hair Experts: – Marco Maranghello of NYC’s John Barrett Salon. – Ted Gibson tames the locks of Angelina Jolie. – Oribe styles A-listers such as Jennifer Lawrence. – Star colorist JP Ramirez of NYC’s Yves Durif Salon. RICH GOLDEN BROWN! Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes (above) are the poster gals for 2013’s hot shade — a rich brown that’s especially popular this winter for ladies chasing a warmer hue. “A lot of people have been asking for it,” says master colorist JP Ramirez of Yves Durif Salon. A bit too drastic for natural blondes, the color is ideal for brunettes: “It’s best for people who already have dark hair and want to make their color richer,” he says. FilmMagic

STAR TRESS! Whether posing on the red carpet or commanding attention onscreen, Jennifer Lawrence stuns with an oh-so-enviable mane. “I think she’s the girl to watch,” says Oribe, who recently styled Lawrence’s hair for the cover of Vanity Fair. “It’s that kind of easy, sexy hair that I think will dominate this year.” Here are a few of her lock looks (clockwise from top left): March 12, 2012: Contrasting blond beach waves Nov. 15, 2012: Sleek style at “Silver Linings Playbook” premiere Nov. 11, 2012: Faceframing curls for a twist May 19, 2011: Brown locks with body Feb. 28, 2011: A glam look for the 2011 Oscars Aug. 9, 2012: Summer stunner in strawberry blond Getty Images (2)/ WireImage (4)

THE BOB! Historically short and cut at an angle, the bob is trending at all lengths this year. “It can be at jawline, it can be towards the middle of the neck, or it can be above the ear,” says Ted Gibson, whose salon gave actress Dianna Agron (above) her sleek, mid-length cut. Oribe is also a fan of the longer version: “The one-length bob below the chin is super sexy!” Kristina Bumphrey/Starpix

SUPER SHORT PIXIE! Though short hair can be difficult to pull off, the look is striking on those brave enough to rock it — including Anne Hathaway, Miley Cyrus (above) and Rihanna. “All those celebrities having short hair will influence some,” says Oribe of the growing legions of pixie princesses. But if you’re on the fence, this may not be the look for you. As Gibson notes: “Women who wear shorter hair have to have a certain kind of confidence.” FilmMagic

THE MID-PONY! When it comes to ponytails, it’s all about positioning, says Gibson. “If you have it too high, it tends to be very cheerleader,” he warns. “The lower ponytail is more sophisticated, but tends to be a little older.” For Rachel Roy’s spring 2013 show, Gibson positioned them in the middle of the head, a style he says is great for girls who want to make a statement without looking overly done-up. And make sure the hair isn’t too curly or too straight: “It should have just a slight wave to it,” he says. Getty Images

GRADIENT COLOR! “Nobody wants to hear about ombré anymore,” Ramirez says. Instead, women are opting for a more subtle shading effect. “It’s not as drastic,” Ramirez says of the style, which is marked by darker roots and discreetly lightened tips, as seen on Jennifer Lopez last month. “The transition is almost undetectable.” Splash News

BANGS! “Bangs are something that’s going to carry through,” says Oribe, who snipped Taylor Swift’s fringe (above) for last February’s Vogue cover. With It girls like Beyoncé and Jennifer Lawrence now sporting them, too, Oribe anticipates more women will freshen up their look with this easy shortcut. “It’s hard to cut your hair off, so bangs give you a change.” WireImage

THE TEXTURED CHIGNON! Brides-to-be, take note: Adding a soft touch to your big-day bun will have you traipsing down the aisle on-trend. For Marchesa’s fall 2013 bridal collection, stylist Marco Maranghello created this romantic alternative to slicked-back styles of the past (above): “I did a loose braid and then twisted it round so it looked like a chignon, but with texture,” he says.

THE DEEP SIDE PART! “Side parts are always on-trend,” says Ted Gibson, adding that clients Jessica Chastain (above) and Ashley Greene are only heightening its appeal by sporting side-swept looks on the red carpet. While Gibson’s smooth version is making a splash, he says curly-haired girls can rock the look, too: “[It’s] great for all textures!” FilmMagic

BLONDS WITH CONTRAST! Got blond ambition? For a modern 2013 look, go for contrasting colors that call to mind grain patterns in wood. “[This look] is very in style right now, and it’s just coming out!” enthuses Ramirez. Blake Lively’s enviable tresses (above) are achieved by combining highlights with two varying lowlight shades. Getty Images

BED-HEAD WAVES! With 2013 calling for not-so-perfect styles, Gibson says tousled waves fit the bill: “It looks very effortless,” says Gibson, name-checking stars like Chloë Moretz (above) and Gabrielle Union. “It works best if you have longer hair, and if your hair is curly, I’d recommend straightening it first and then putting some waves in it.” Getty Images

BLOW OUT WITH CURLED ENDS! “It’s always nice to have some movement on the ends, to finish a smooth look,” says Maranghello of the look du jour among royals such as Kate Middleton and Princess Madeleine (of Sweden, above with fiancé Christopher O’Neill). Maranghello, who works at NYC’s John Barrett Salon, says his local clients clamor for it, too. “It’s a classic New York style,” he says. CPE
