GOLF: Rookie in front at Sony Open

In Honolulu, Russell Henley putted for birdie on every hole yesterday on his way to a second straight round of a 7-under 63, giving him a two-shot lead over fellow rookie Scott Langley and Scott Piercy in the Sony Open.

He was at 14-under 126, breaking the 36-hole tournament record by two shots.

“It’s pretty surreal,” Henley said.

The last rookie to win his PGA Tour debut was Garrett Wilson when he captured the Tucson Open in 2001.

Dustin Johnson, who won last week at Kapalua, withdrew after playing nine holes because of the flu.

In Durban, South Africa, Louis Oosthuizen made a long birdie putt at the final green to take a one-shot lead after the second round of the Volvo Champions. Oosthuizen had an 8-under 64 for a 12-under 132 total, one shot ahead of Scotland’s Scott Jamieson (64) and Thailand’s Thongchai Jaidee (68).

Ryo Ishikawa of Japan and Thaworn Wiratchant of Thailand accepted special invitations to the Masters, rounding out the field of 85.

Former Dodgers and Mariners outfielder Milton Bradley has been charged with abusing his estranged wife and faces up to 13 years in jail if convicted, Los Angeles prosecutors announced Friday.

Bradley, 34, was charged on Thursday with 13 misdemeanor counts of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and dissuading a witness from making a report.
