Delmonico’s ‘steaks’ out a position on East End

Delmonico’s, which bills itself as “America’s first restaurant,” is opening an East End outpost.

The steakhouse, which is part of the Delmonico Restaurant Group, just closed on the purchase of a Southampton building that housed the restaurant Savanna’s, Side Dish has learned. Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.

Dennis Turcinovic, Delmonico’s owner, who is partners with Milan Licul, told Side Dish the Delmonico Restaurant Group is in an expansion mode, with plans to grow the brand based on its unique history.

In November, the group opened Delmonico’s Kitchen at 207 W. 36th St., in addition to its original location at 56 Beaver Street.

They plan on opening a third Manhattan location before spreading their wings to Miami and then other US cities, Turcinovic said.

Delmonico’s began as a pastry shop in downtown Manhattan in 1827 and has been at its Beaver Street location since 1837. It claims to be the first in the US to be called a restaurant and the first to use a printed menu.

The new Southampton location, to be called Delmonico’s of Southampton, will be a 5000-square -foot space — with a 2000-square-foot space for outdoor seating — slated to open in April.

“It will be formal and casual,” Turcinovic said. “We will keep the classic dishes and concentrate heavily on the seafood and steak — more lighter fare for the Hamptons crowd rather than the heavier dishes.”

The Southampton location will be open 10 months of the year and hopes to do a lot of catering, said Turcinovic, who is working with Douglas Elliman’s Neal Sroka on its expansion plans.

Sur Empanada Factory and Bakery will be opening their first retail outpost in Manhattan at 644 Lexington Ave. The 10-year lease is for a 750-square-foot space with a 400-square-foot basement.

Joseph Robinson and Alex Karas of BOND New York Properties brokered the deal, representing both the landlord and Empanada.
